What is the Clean Air Markets Division (CAMD)?

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Air Markets Divison (CAMD) runs programs that reduce air pollution from power plants to address several environmental problems, including acid rain, ozone, and particle pollution, and interstate transport of air pollution. CAMD programs include the Acid Rain Program (ARP), the Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR), and the Revised CSAPR Update.

To evaluate these programs, the EPA monitors emissions from power plants of sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), and carbon dioxide (CO2). The EPA also monitors and regulates air toxics including mercury, arsenic, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid emissions from power plants through the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards.
